Peru man crashes into a police car

PERU — A Peru man wound up in the hospital after his vehicle collided with a police squad car.

At 7:47 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Strawtown Pike at 250S.

A crash investigation revealed that a 2002 Saturn L200 driven by Patrick C. Evans, 26, Peru, was traveling eastbound on 250S when he reportedly failed to yield for a stop sign at the intersection of Strawtown Pike. Evans drove into the intersection and struck a northbound 2007 Ford Crown Victoria police car driven by Miami County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Hunter.

The impact caused the Ford to travel off the east side of Strawtown Pike where it came to rest after striking a utility pole on the passenger side. Both vehicles were considered a total loss.

Evans was transported by ambulance to Dukes Memorial Hospital with a complaint of neck pain and lacerations to his head. Hunter was not injured.

Hunter was on duty and conducting routine patrol at the time of the crash. Evans was cited for failure to yield.
