Three injured in single-vehicle crash

Police believe alcohol to be a contributing factor

by Denise Massie
Pharos-Tribune staff writer

Two Twelve Mile residents were hospitalized for injuries they received in a single-vehicle accident on Friday afternoon.

Cass County Sheriff Department received a call at 4:18 p.m. and found the driver, David B. Schmid, 54, Twelve Mile, with a head laceration from hitting the windshield.

Deputy Gary Armstrong administered a breathalyzer test to him at the scene and said alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor. Armstrong said Schmid was driving north on Broadripple when his car left the right-hand side of the road before he overcorrected. The car veered across the road and ended up in the west-side ditch where it struck a tree near 75N.

The front-seat passenger, wife Lynn Schmid, 41, complained of chest pain. Their daughter, Jordan, 9, complained of head pain. Both were flown by Samaritan Helicopter to Fort Wayne’s Parkview Hospital. They were listed in fair condition Friday night.

Logansport Fire Department and Cass County EMS also responded to the scene.

Sheriff deputies are investigating the accident.
