Pulaski Co. crash leaves driver dead

WINAMAC — A weekend crash left the driver and sole occupant dead.

Early Sunday, Pulaski County deputies responded to a one-car accident at 625E and 250N, near the Fulton-Pulaski county line. Upon arriving on the scene, deputies found a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer against a tree on the south side of the road. The driver, 56-year-old Charles D. Wicker of Kewanna, had suffered fatal injuries.

Investigators say Wicker had been traveling southbound on 625E at a speed too fast for the road conditions when his vehicle left the roadway.

Evidence at the scene indicated Wicker’s vehicle struck a utility pole before striking the tree. Wicker was not wearing a seat belt. Tests are pending to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Roads to close for bridge work

ROYAL CENTER — Two roads near Royal Center will be closed this week for bridge work.

Work will begin, weather permitting, on Wednesday morning at the bridge on 650N just east of 900W. Work will then move to Center Street just east of 700W.

The road closures will be in effect during daylight hours. The work, involving soil testing in anticipation of bridge replacement, is expected to take a day to a day and a half at each site. Residents will have access to homes, but the roads will be closed to through traffic.
