State police plan sobriety checkpoint

KOKOMO — The Indiana State Police Peru Post will conduct an enforcement checkpoint targeting impaired drivers in Howard County on Saturday evening.

After the checkpoint, troopers will conduct roving saturation patrols aggressively seeking impaired drivers throughout the Peru District, which covers Cass, Fulton, Miami, Howard, Tipton and Wabash counties.

The purpose of enforcement checkpoints is to remove impaired drivers from Indiana roadways before they cause needless pain, suffering and death to innocent victims. Checkpoints also educate the motoring public of the ongoing efforts by the state police to reduce the number of impaired driving crashes and deter anyone from driving while intoxicated.

Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1. Give a vehicle description and direction of travel. Never follow an impaired driver.

Meet Overmyer before concert

Former American Idol contestant Amanda Overmyer will be visiting Logansport from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express.

Attendees will be able to get autographs and meet Amanda in person. Concert tickets also will available on site.

She will be performing a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in McHale Performing Arts Center.

Basket fundraiser set at Riverside

The Logansport Alpha Mu Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority is holding a Longaberger Basket Bingo Fundraiser on Saturday in the McHale Complex of Riverside Park.

Doors will open at 9 a.m. and bingo begins at 9:30 a.m.

A limited number of tickets are still available at the cost of $25 each. The cost includes 20 games of bingo, a continental breakfast and coffee or juice.

Attendees also can purchase additional 20 game bingo packets at the door for $12.
