Golf outing wasa true team effort
On behalf of the Logansport Noon Kiwanis Club, I would like to offer our sincere thanks to all those who helped us to reach our goal to raise $10,000 for “Kiwanis Golf for Riley,” in conjunction with the 175th anniversary celebration for the city of Logansport! This truly was a team effort! The event was held Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Dykeman Park Golf Course and was attended by 73 golfers, including Ted Bishop, PGA president, PGA professional and Logansport native. Ted arranged his schedule to come and join us making for an even more special day! Thank you, Ted, for the Ryder Cup pins!
I want to thank all my fellow Kiwanians for helping to make this a great day for golf and to support juvenile diabetes research through Riley Children’s Hospital. I would like to make special mention and thanks to my “Golf Committee:” Kyle Smith who was on fire at every step of the way with the ball drop, flyers, hole sponsors and more I’m sure that I’m unaware; Jerry Miller, who talked me in off the ledge more than once and for overseeing the team recruiting and sponsorships; Myeca Dunlap and Charlie for taking care of the lunch and cleanup; Pete Riggle for the registration of the golf teams; Bob Dunderman and Lloyd Knight for rounding up some of the best prizes and making the arrangements for the dinner proceeds from Buffalo Wild Wings to boost our efforts!
Hats off to Heather Cassell from Buffalo Wild Wings for making this one of the best fundraisers they have had! I also would like to thank all of the area businesses who provided team and hole sponsorships for the tourney. We could not have done this without you. Thank you also to Jen Savini, Lorna Castillo, Lauren Gaumer, and Kylene Sickafus for holding down the responsibilities of the pictures and the hole in one witnesses on hole 10. Great job!
We would also like to thank Rex Danely and the District Fire Department for the use of the ladder truck for the ball drop; Tyson’s for donating the meat; Burlington Meats for making the brats and pork burgers; Servant’s Heart Home Health Services for the chips, charcoal, and misc.; American Tool Time for the discounted chairs, tent, and tables; Sherry VanSoest from Mr. Happy Burger for the buns; Pete Riggle and State Farm for the tees; Gundrum Funeral Home and Crematory for flyers, ball drop tickets, signage, and so much of Kyle’s time; Logansport Savings Bank for water and bags; Memorial Hospital for the use of the grill; Kyle Smith for the music and sound system; Dean Vietti and the Dykeman staff for being such great hosts!
Congratulations to Tony Hayden for winning the ball drop and to the Gundrum team for its win at -13! A special mention for Greg Bewley for closest to the pin on hole 3 with a tennis racket, yes, a tennis racket from the tee!
Thank you to Indiana Kiwanis Governor Ted Sullivan and Mandy Pietrykowski, Riley Children’s Foundation fift officer, for coming and lending their support.
Should this become an annual event, I will look forward with great expectation to see how this may grow to benefit Riley Children’s Hospital. Thank you, Logansport!
