Freedom Hunt Fundraiser says thank you

On behalf of Freedom Hunt, I would like to thank Mike Murray of Versatile Cabinet and Solid Surface, Tina Ash, Chris Denny and the many other volunteers and donors who recently raised $2,500 at a local garage sale fundraiser.

The money will be used to support this year’s hunt which is scheduled to take place from Sept. 27 to 29. If you are the parent of a special need’s child who might be interested in participating in the September deer hunt, please visit us at freedomhunt.com and complete our online application. Thanks again to the volunteers for all your hard work!

Take note of alcohol & drug abuse awareness

The New Vision service at Logansport Memorial Hospital would like to announce September is National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Awareness Month.

In 2009, an estimated 23.2 million people aged 12 or older needed treatment for a substance abuse disorder in the United States. Addiction is a disease, and just like any other chronic illness, it can be recovered from. Treatment and recovery support services are as effective as treatments for other diseases, such as asthma or diabetes.

Recovery from addiction positively affects not only the addicted individual, but also their families and communities. We would like to address the risks of prescription misuse. The illegal use of pharmaceuticals is one of the fastest-growing forms of abuse. People often get these medicines from a friend or relative.

People experience recovery in different ways. Some people recover on their own. Others recover through treatment and/or the assistance of self help groups (Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous), medical stabilization, such as New Vision, inpatient treatment services.

National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month in its 20th year of showcasing the success of recovery. The 2011 Recovery Month theme emphasizes the need to use all available resources to educate people about the disease and to help those with substance use disorders and their families get support.

If you know someone who suffers from an alcohol or drug problem, please call Logansport Memorial Hospital at 1-800-939-CARE. At New Vision we can help those who are suffering incapacitation due to the effects of drugs, alcohol or acute withdrawal symptoms, and related health problems. It’s OK to ask for help. Call us, we can help.
