PUBLIC FORUM: Lincoln Day dinner a big success for Republicans

The celebration of the GOP’s 106th Lincoln Day was absolutely the best ever. We had a crowd of over 250, which made for a successful evening. There are so many people we have to thank for this beautiful evening:

1) All of the people who attended the event; 2) Precinct Chairs and Vice Chairs for selling tickets; 3) Republican women and men, for decorating and for the wonderful appetizers;

4) Valerie Putsey for playing the piano during the appetizers; 5) for girls who greeted guests and ushered them to tables and sold 50/50 tickets; and 6) to Tim Tully who led all in “God Bless America.”

Thanks also to the Rev. Doug Mankell and to all of the Calvary members who helped in many ways to make a successful and great event.

Thanks to the many people who sponsored tables and participated in the program in some way. There were 16 students who attended, thanks to U. S. Congressman Todd Rokita and Myers Spring who sponsored tables for them.

Our surprise guest, Secretary of State Connie Lawson, gave us an update on what is happening in her office.

We owe a big thank you also to U.S. Congressman Steve Buyer and Hon. Julian Ridlen for securing and presenting a House Resolution from Congressman Todd Rokita and Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, in memory of Don Heckard for all the work he did for the Republican Party. This resolution was presented to the Don Heckard family. We also thank Congressman Buyer for bringing his wife, Joni, with him. It was great to see her again.

It was Don Heckard’s request that his Lincoln Plate be auctioned off at the next Lincoln Day. Thanks to the Heckard family for presenting this plate to us for auction. In fulfilling this request, longtime friend, Bill Fouts, auctioned off the plate. Thanks to the Cole family for purchasing the plate and then giving it to Bill Fouts’ wife. This was a beautiful act of charity and friendship.

We thank Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann, who inspired all of us with her knowledge and vision for the Republican Party.

In closing, Tom and I thank all of you for giving us the opportunity to represent the Republican Party in this special way. It has been a privilege and an honor to do so. This Lincoln Day was our “Swan Song,” and we are thrilled that it ended with such a fabulous evening.
