---- — Organ donors save lives

Dear Editor,

Well it is with great humility and honor that I am writing my annual “Letter to the Editor.”

I am asking everyone to become an organ donor.

26 years ago on Dec. 10, 1987, our son was given a second chance at life. He received a heart transplant at IU Medical Center.

If not for that unknown donor family, we would not have been so blessed to still have him with us. He was 21 years old when he received his donor heart.

He has been blessed to get married, have a family and now is a grandfather. That donor’s heart is beating three times over. First in him, then in the daughter that was born after the transplant and now in his grandson.

These three lives would not be here if not for the donor heart. We will be eternally grateful to this donor family.

I ask you all, please become an organ donor. It is so simple and so priceless.

We wish all of you a healthy, happy and blessed New Year.

Please remember “Don’t take your organs to Heaven. Heaven knows we need them here.”

God bless you all.

Proud parents of Jerry “Lee” and Jeff Jones.

Mission project response overwhelming

Our “Free the Girls” Mission Project is over for this year, and we are truly amazed and thankful for the overwhelming response from the entire community. We collected hundreds of new and gently used bras, and they are currently on their way to third world countries to be sold by former slaves in the second hand clothing market. These women are able to make a living selling these bras while going to school, getting healthy and caring for their families.

Again, thank you to all those who helped us make this one of the successful Mission Projects of the Miami Baptist Church.
