PUBLIC FORUM: Letters for Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013

(Continued)

The Logansport Municipal Utilities plant (this might be the Pyrolyzer group) gets paid for accepting the garbage and also sells any excess electricity. The idea is fantastic and I give them a 10 for the idea, the hard part is going to get the plants operational and all the logistics of the garbage/refuse smooth flow into the Pyrolyzer plant by rail and truck.

If everything goes well, then Ted could run for governor, and Logansport will be a word heard ‘round the world. If it doesn’t work, Ted might be hunting for a job.

Thanks for clearing way for emissions controls

I have recently moved back home to Logansport from Thousand Oaks, Calif., and am learning about the waste-to-energy/incinerator project. It seems like the name of the project depends on who is doing the talking.

The Pharos Tribune’s Aug. 7 story about local emissions limits was very interesting.

Good for the county commissioners for considering making any new incinerator be just as clean as a natural gas plant. This is a conservative, reasonable approach, and passing these requirements could diffuse a lot of controversy surrounding the Pyrolyzer proposal. Requiring Pyrolyzer to be as “clean” as a natural gas plant should be no problem, provided that it is actually as clean as the mayor and his consultants claim.

I hope the commissioners go forward with this plan.
