Thanks to city officialsfor tackling problem
In January 2013, I wrote a Public Forum about my conversation with Mayor Ted Franklin when he first took office in 2012 regarding the lack of pedestrian crosswalks on East Market: “I told the mayor that I am especially concerned because I have a brother who lives at Pine Crest who physically cannot drive and must walk or take public transportation. I’ve also seen a number of people on foot and in wheelchairs trying to dodge traffic to cross from the south side to the north side to get to Cass Plaza, the Mall, Mall Road, etc. I suggested putting up signal buttons to stop traffic (as we have at other crosswalks). Mayor Franklin listened and then basically told me that crosswalks were not part of the original plans for that renovation and to add them now would be expensive. End of story.”
About two months ago, Mayor Franklin called to follow up on our original conversation and let me know that this issue was being looked into. He said that he hoped that there would be a resolution soon.
So I waited, knowing that the wheels of government turn about as fast as a watched pot boils.
Then on June 6 I opened the Pharos-Tribune and what do I see? “ADA Crosswalk Coming to East Market Street Near Cass Plaza”. Yes! Thank you to Mayor Franklin, Chris Armstrong and the Board of Public Works and Safety for listening and for understanding the severity of this situation and taking action.
Let’s make anothersoldier trade
Obama traded five Taliban leaders for one U.S. Army soldier.
We have one U.S. Marine incarcerated in Mexico. Obama should trade about 10,000 illegal immigrants for our Marine.
