PUBLIC FORUM: Dioxin not present in pyrolysis process

---- — Dioxin not present in pyrolysis process

The Pyrolyzer system intended for Logansport will not generate dioxin. Creation of dioxin in a true pyrolysis process is excluded by the absence of oxygen in the process. Completely different chemical reactions take place when compared to an incinerator. Other partial oxidation pyrolysis systems could produce dioxin but our system will not. This is based on the following factors:1. Pyrolyzer’s pyrolysis process is not incineration. The pyrolysis process used by Pyrolyzer operates at a constant temperature and in the absence of oxygen. This prohibits formation of dioxin. Without oxygen, without the high temperatures, and without the rapid change in temperature, it will be impossible for dioxins to form in the pyrolysis unit.2. The Pyrogas created by the pyrolysis reactions, which become the fuel used in the gas turbines that generate the electricity, is vigorously scrubbed before it is sent to the combustion turbine. The scrubber removes virtually all the chlorine from the Pyrogas, which would make it impossible for any dioxins to form when the Pyrogas is burned in the combustion turbine.3. Pyrolyzer has done multiple analyses of Pyrogas, and it has never contained measurable chlorine. If any chlorine remained in the Pyrogas, this would present a concern because chlorine present in thePyrogas would convert to hydrogen chloride which could damage the combustion turbines. Pyrolyzer has an incentive to ensure the chlorine is scrubbed from the Pyrogas or we risk damaging the electric generating equipment.Pyrolyzer’s technology has been permitted twice in the European Union and also meets California emissions standards which are the lowest in the country. We are confident we will get a permit in the US. The Logansport 150-megawatt pyrolysis gasification plant will be the world’s cleanest waste to energy power generating facility and represents an advanced technology that cannot be compared to other technologies.Frank CanterburyPyrolyzer general manager
