PUBLIC FORUM: Judge Burns must return

As the upcoming election draws closer I am asking for your support of Judge Leo Burns to continue as our Cass County Circuit Court judge. A judge’s role is defined by high ethical standards, and Judge Burns is a man of true character and integrity. Judge Burns has been a proactive leader in the community working with civic groups and organizations as diverse as the Neal Home, the Cass County Family Y and the Logansport/Cass County Public Library, all with the common goal of serving the citizens of Cass County.

The strongest part of Leo’s devotion to community service has always been in helping the youth of Cass County. Leo has served on the board of the Cass County Youth Service Bureau, and as coach of the Pioneer debate team. I know first hand how important kids are to Leo; having sat in his court with children I have mentored I have witnessed the genuine passion he has for the youth of our community. Judge Burns was instrumental in developing the Six to Six program, a program aimed at helping middle school students to make better behavioral choices in life. He also started the Transitions Program, which is designed to assist youth who have been in placement through the juvenile court, be it through the Department of Children’s Services or probation, to transition to a less/least restrictive placement, with the ultimate goal of reforming and returning these children back into society as productive citizens.

He is also tough on repeat offenders, handing down stern rulings and has sent a clear message to Cass County that unlawful behavior will not be tolerated and will not go unpunished. Judge Burns takes his oath of office very seriously and has conducted himself as judge with a high level of integrity and respect for both the people before him as judge and the community he serves. He understands his rulings can have a profound effect on people’s lives, and he strives to make a positive impact.

So, on Election Day, I ask that you vote for Judge Burns.  His experience and professionalism are absolutely necessary for the youth of Cass County and our entire community.

Chuck LaDow, Logansport City Council Ward 4
