Temperature change isn’t the most severe effect of a changing climate. Changes to precipitation patterns and sea levels are going to have a much greater human impact than higher temperatures alone. Think of the recent ferocity of hurricanes, increasing droughts, and flooding; the extreme weather is already affecting the world. While people may not believe in “global warming,” it is hard not to recognize “climate change.”
While global warming and climate change are two different phenomena in scientific language, for the masses they are used interchangeably. Perhaps the reason for the crazy weather patterns wouldn’t be called into question if climate change was the norm at the start of the discussion.
Let’s be sure we’redealing in good faith
On this one-year anniversary since Logansport received Pyrolyzer’s proposal, the City Council is giving Mayor Franklin unlimited time to solve “unforeseen issues regarding investors and drafting an agreement with Midcontinent Independent System Operator Inc. to sell the extra electricity the plant is projected to create…” (Pharos-Tribune 12/13/13)
Neither reason is acceptable because both of these ingredients were known necessities more than one year ago.
The City’s Request for Proposals (RFP) required Pyrolyzer to finance the project. Pyrolyzer’s 1/11/13 proposal states: “All capital for the project will be provided by Pyrolyzer LLC.” Pyrolyzer should make good on its promise.
As to the second excuse: In November of 2012, paid consultant Petersen said his “study” showed that LMU “is situated positively for transmission sales into the ISO markets in their region.” He stated that an interconnection agreement with MISO would be needed. Accordingly, the City’s RFP required applicants to “describe interconnection and transmission requirements to access grid,” but Pyrolyzer’s proposal was silent as to any plan to access any grid. However in March 2013, the City’s paid consultant Petersen wrote to the Mayor that “The Team” was “confident” that its schedule, including “identification of how the power plant can expand if demand for power exceeds current forecasts and capacity of the power plant”, was “achievable.”
