Hundreds of thousands of families have been separated by deportations — torn apart and deprived of fundamental liberty and due process rights. Our current inflexible system does not allow for judicial discretion so that judges are able to make individualized determinations based on the facts of each deportation case. We need a fair road to citizenship that will keep more families together. What’s more, Logansport cannot afford to ignore a large percentage of its population that could be starting businesses, serving in public offices, working for schools, and more. It makes no sense to leave talent and potential behind.
Fortunately, our immigration system is not broken beyond repair. Recently, both President Obama and House Republicans have stated a willingness to work toward fixing our immigration system. This is very encouraging. But I also know the politics might cause this issue to be delayed yet again. Our Representatives here in Indiana can change that.
I support a fair and inclusive roadmap to citizenship, so that as many hopeful citizens as possible are given the opportunity to come out of the shadows. Congressman Stutzman and Congresswoman Walorski, please encourage leaders in the House to vote on immigration reform this year. And if there is a vote, please vote yes — for the good of the community, and for the children we work to educate each day.
What would the wordof God say about it?
It seems that our culture and our government is trying to fit the Word of God in our lifestyles, instead of fitting our lifestyles into the Word of God. God has the final say! The God of the Old testament and the Father of Jesus Christ is the same one, “I the Lord, do not change.” Malachi 3:6.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrew 13:8.
