Thanks to Marsh for its support

I work for Ivy Tech (Kokomo, Logansport, Peru and Wabash), and Marsh Supermarkets (specifically their manager, Brian Hettinger, at the 14th Street store) recently donated seven $5 gift cards for a Nursing Camp the Logansport campus held for aspiring nurses (who are currently on summer break from high school).

One of the camp’s activities involved playing bingo with senior center patrons and, in an effort to show our appreciation for allowing “campers” to come in and participate with the seniors, we gave them Marsh gift cards. I want to sincerely thank Brian for his nice gesture in donating gift cards to Ivy Tech, especially on such short notice. His efforts truly helped make the nursing camp an overall great experience for the “campers.” Thanks again, Brian!

Cancer society offers thanks

Relay For Life of Cass County 2008 would like to thank the community for making this year’s event possible.

Although the weather seemed determined to not cooperate and did force us to move our event, you didn’t let that affect your Relay Spirit or dedication to eliminating cancer. We truly appreciate all those individuals and teams that were understanding of the situation we were put in and still rallied to make the event on Saturday, June 14 a success!

A special thank you to the committee members and volunteers that devoted time and effort to help throughout the year and at the event itself. Thank you to the sponsors and businesses that donated monetarily or via an in kind donation. Without each and every one of you, our annual event would not be possible. Thank you to Lewis Cass School Corporation for being our event host this year. Thank you to Mr. Isaacs and Tim Piercy for your hospitality and set up of the event. Thank you to all who purchased a Luminary and helped make the ceremony so memorable. And, of course, a special thank you to our Survivors for coming out.

We are grateful that we were able to honor each of you by holding our Survivor Lap. It is our hope that one day we will have a cure for cancer. This event is held across the country in thousands of communities just like ours, and the money that is raised goes towards the research needed to find that cure. This money is also used to help cancer patients in need, whether it be through programs, education or other assistance. Our Relay does help those cancer patients and survivors in Cass County.

We hope to see everyone next year and invite anyone who is interested in becoming involved with the Relay For Life in 2009 to contact me at the American Cancer Society, (765) 455-9905 or christy.hagen@cancer.org.

Thanks again and we will see you next year!
