In their own words

by Melissa Soria
Pharos-Tribune staff writer

Editor’s note: Pharos-Tribune lifestyle writer Melissa Soria poses a question to a group of youngsters each week to get their take on a topic. We hope you enjoy their responses as much as we do. We polled children in Kristie Baer’s first-grade class at Franklin Elementary School in Logansport and asked the following question:

What is your favorite type of insect?

“Ants. They make anthills. I killed an ant. I took my shoe off and slammed it.”

– Johanna Sosa

•••

“Spiders. Daddy long legs are the best spiders. They’re really cool. I used to keep them in my house right on my top shelf in my room.”

– Braxton Howard

•••

“Ladybugs because they have polka dots and because they can fly.”

– Madison Langley

•••

“Spiders. We put them up on Halloween when we go Trick-or-Treating. They spin webs and catch flies. They make little baby spiders so they can take care of the ants and the little animals in the house.”

– Alex Villafana

•••

“Worms because they’re fun to play with and they wrap around your finger.”

– Joselin Olvera

•••

“Scorpions because they’re killer bugs.”

– Bryce Spencer
