Pioneer wins ‘battle of the schools’

Pioneer prevailed over Lewis Cass in the Cass County Community Foundation’s “battle of the schools,” but both schools wound up with matching funds.

“This year’s competition was the most exciting yet,” said Deanna Crispen, the foundation’s executive director. “Going into the final night of the battle, Lewis Cass was in the lead. Friday night, Pioneer supporters rallied and reclaimed the title.”

The schools raised a combined total of over $1,800 for their scholarship funds. As the winner, Pioneer Scholarship Fund will receive a $1,000 match from the Community Foundation.

“In addition, in recognition of the spirited effort displayed by Lewis Cass supporters, CCCF will also award Lewis Cass a $500 match for their scholarship fund,” Crispen said. “This was truly an event where everyone wins.”

Crispen thanked everyone involved in the effort.

“Thanks to your efforts, we can continue to provide scholarships to students graduating from these high schools as they pursue a higher education,” she said. “We look forward to next year’s battle of the schools at the 2008 4-H fair.”
