Schuyler Hand Skilled Scholar

Student: Schuyler Hand

Instructor: Mr. Leffert

School of: Advanced Manufacturing

Class: Building Trades I

Schuyler Hand attends Logansport High School and plans to go into construction. He would like to go to a trade school and then full-time employment.

His current Century Career Center class is Building Trades I.

What he likes most about his CCC class is “it is a great opportunity to safely learn skills required in the real world.”

He believes this class is helping him prepare for the future because “it teaches me the skills I need to be a good worker and to have a good attitude.”

Awards Schuyler has earned include Certification in CPR/AED, lifeguarding and First Aid.

He is a member of the Logansport High School swim team and also is a Cass County Seal. He loves to swim and build things and likes working different jobs and doing different things.

His favorite teacher is Mr. Leffert because “he teaches the most practical information in school.”

The person Schuyler looks up to the most is his dad. “He is a hard worker and never complains. He always gets the job done.”

One of Schuyler’s proudest moments was at the end of the swim season when he finally broke his personal best after weeks of training.

Advice Schuyler would give to other students about career planning and preparation is “take classes in the Century Career Center so you can learn all the skills necessary for a job.”

Mr. Leffert is the instructor in the School of Advanced Manufacturing at CCC.

He describes Schuyler’s greatest strengths as having excellent attendance, always follows directions, someone who can be trusted with any assignment, and comes to class prepared.

“Schuyler listens to directions even when they are repeated several times and makes sure he understands the task at hand before starting; this avoids things being done wrong,” said Leffert.

“Schuyler always works hard even when the other students in the class don’t. He doesn’t let them bring him down. He always has a positive attitude, and he is a good leader,” adds Leffert.

Some major tasks Schuyler has learned in this class include wall framing, wiring, and built a 12-foot by 12-foot deck.

Some goals Mr. Leffert has for Schuyler are to be able to show him more aspects of individual leadership of groups, drywall finishing and advanced wiring.

“Schuyler is a joy to have in class; always shows up ready to work and accepts his assignments regardless of what they are without complaints,” said Leffert.
