INDIANAPOLIS — Bethany Michelle Arthur was inducted into the Beta Alpha Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at the University of Indianapolis on April 19.
Arthur, a Twelve Mile resident majoring in health related professions, is the daughter of Marty and Kathleen Arthur of Twelve Mile .
Established in 1918 by two-year college presidents, Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest and most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges around the world. The society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service programming.
Students must rank in the top 20 percent of the class to be invited to membership in Phi Theta Kappa and must maintain high academic standing during their enrollment in the two-year college. Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.7 million members and 1,100 chapters. In 1929, the American Association of Community Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges.

Cass ag students win state competition
WALTON — Scott Hardy, Eric Bridge, Derek Catt and Cory Richardson, all from Lewis Cass Junior-Senior High School, won state for an Ag Mechanics contest held in Trafalgar on April 26.
The team that won received scholarships from the University of Northwestern Ohio. The team has qualified for the National Ag Mechanics Contest which is held in October at National Convention. They will receive their awards at the State Convention, which is held in June at Purdue University. The traditional knowledge and skills are still a part of ag mechanics technical content but many other abilities are now necessary.
Emphasis is placed on the way in which students work with others, access information, solve complex problems, select an appropriate technology and apply the principles of science. The ag mechanics career development event balances problem solving abilities with knowledge, skills and experience. These abilities are evaluated for students working together as a team and also individually. The five areas that the event was judged on were the following: Machinery and Equipment Repairs Systems; Marketing/Informational Systems; Energy Systems; Structural Systems; Environmental/National Resource Systems.
