Area schools compete in annual Battle of the Books

The Logansport Cass County Public Library celebrated National Library Week by hosting the first Battle of the Books. Each school in the county formed a team of fourth- and fifth-grade students. The students were asked to read the same 10 books, chosen by the children’s librarians at the public library. The students had several months to read the books. While the students were reading, the librarians were developing questions about settings, characters and plot from each of the books. All of the teams then met at the library on April 16 and 17 and competed in battles to determine which team knew the most about all of the books. The teams competed in a double-elimination tournament format.

The schools that participated were the All Saints Story Slayers, Columbia Elementary Spartans, Fairview Bookworm Behemoths, Franklin Bulldog Book Busters, Galveston Cardinal Bookworms, Homeschool Golden Eagles, Landis the Lion’s Pride, Pioneer Panther Power Readers and Thompson Book Battlers.

After battling 10 rounds and having one loss, the Galveston Bookworms are the Logansport Cass County Public Library 2008 Battle of the Books Champions.
