Internship program continues at LHS
The internship program at Logansport High School is coordinated by KaAnn Lord, family and consumer science teacher.
The internship program is a way for students to gain experience in a career of their choice. It provides experiences that students may not gain in the classroom or textbook. The internship program requires two class periods a day and can be taken for one semester.
Students must go through an application process including five teacher recommendations, two interviews with the coordinator, as well as participating in a career interest inventory. The student is then matched with a business that closely fits his or her career choice. A parent meeting is held before the start of the semester to go over forms, rules, schedule, etc.
Students report to the business five days a week for the semester. They are required to turn in weekly reports to the coordinator and are also graded by the participating business. The goal is for students to gain enough exposure to determine whether they want to pursue a career in this field.

Supervisor’s quote:
Q. What do you think of the internship program?
A. The internship program is a wonderful opportunity for high school students to observe and actively participate in various careers. The interns gain practical knowledge about a career by engaging in the various responsibilities of a particular job. The student has an opportunity to gain experience over a semester rather than observe for a day or two. In the schools, the interns daily interaction with students amplifies the learning of both the intern and the students with whom they teach.
Q. Why were you willing to participate?
A. When one researches career opportunities for the future, Speech Pathology is included on the list of needs. Speech Pathology is a growing dynamic profession. It is a teaching profession which extends to various work environments such as medical, schools, or private practice. Participation in the LHS internship program with energetic high school students is a win-win situation for all involved.
