There is no excuse for cheating. Unquestionably, the state should be looking out for cheaters and making sure that anyone who does cheat is punished.
Still, the heightened pressure that has led some schools and teachers to take these desperate measures isn’t healthy. No single set of tests should have such significance.
The state should be looking for a broader measure of success for schools, their teachers and their students. There has to be a way to judge this state’s education system based not on what happens on a single test, but on what happens in the classroom every day.
