Voting
Registration deadline coming up
If you haven’t yet registered to vote in the Nov. 4 election, time is running out. The deadline is Monday.
State election officials say more than 70,000 Indiana residents have registered since the May primary and those numbers are rising.
Indiana had 4.39 million eligible voters as of Sept. 21.
The Indiana secretary of state’s office says the May primary drew a record number of new voter registrations and that trend shows no signs of stopping.
Frankly, that’s a good thing.
Voting is a key part of the democratic process, and it’s incumbent upon all of us to take the time to vote. Of course, you should also do your homework.
The vice presidential candidates will participate in a debate on Thursday, and the presidential candidates have debates scheduled on Tuesday and Oct. 15.
Indiana’s gubernatorial candidates have already participated in two debates, and they have a third debate scheduled Oct. 14 in Bloomington. And if you missed the first two debates, you can still find the video at www.indianadebatecommission.com.
For more local issues, don’t miss the local candidate forum next Tuesday at McHale Performing Arts Center. That forum will feature candidates for Indiana Senate District 18, Indiana House District 24, county council and county coroner.
You’ll have lots of chances to cast your ballot.
Absentee voting at the County Government Center begins Oct. 6 and runs through Nov. 3.
Vote centers at Royal Center Town Hall, the Cass County 4-H Fairgrounds, Galveston Community Center, Walton Fire Station, Logansport Mall and the Downtown Senior Center will be open for voting from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 30 through Nov. 1. Those locations as well as a seventh location at the Twelve Mile Fire Station will also be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 4.
So by all means, take advantage of your right to vote. First, though, you have to register.
Candidate forum
A forum featuring candidates for county office and two local legislative races has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in McHale Performing Arts Center. The event will air live on radio station WSAL AM 1230.
