Ag council

A step in the right direction

Hats off to the Logansport/Cass County Chamber of Commerce on its recent launch of the Cass County Ag Council.

The chamber formally kicked off the ag council this month with a breakfast attended by more than 100 members of the farming community, along with state and local officials.

The council is a formal recognition of the fact that agriculture is a major part of the county economy. Chamber officials say the council’s main focus is to bring together business and agriculture, which in turn will help to advance the county as a whole.

The chamber also hopes the council will give a stronger voice to the agriculture industry.

Chamber representatives say they will form a committee to refine the council’s mission and purpose. Long-term goals for the council include educating members on local, state, federal and global issues, in addition to offering networking opportunities and providing recognition to area agricultural leaders.

Given the role of agriculture in the Cass County economy, the formation of this council was probably overdue.

One key role of the chamber is to promote cooperation among the various elements of the local economy, and this new council should help in bringing farming interests into the loop.
