Children’s Choir

Celebrating an important milestone

Congratulations to the Logansport Children’s Choir on its approaching 20th anniversary.

Tim Cahalan and his wife, Susan, started the choir in October 1988. Cahalan said he had seen such choirs in larger communities, and he thought the idea might work here.

It certainly has.

The choir now has more than 100 members from third grade through high school, and kids travel from Kewanna, Rochester and Winamac to participate.

In the almost 20 years since its forumation, the Logansport Children’s Choir has had 644 members, and it has given more than 200 performances.

The choir has visited 23 states and seven countries, and it has sung songs in 21 languages. Four pieces have been commissioned specifically for the Logansport Children’s Choir.

Over the years, the choir has performed in such places as the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, St. Peter’s Square in Rome, Salzburg Cathedral in Austria and Canterbury Cathedral in England.

It has also performed with musicians such as Rita Coolidge and the Lettermen.

More than 60 of its members have been selected to the All State Children’s Honor Choir, and a number have gone on to make their careers in music.

The choir’s resume is impressive, and its alumni look back on their experience with fond memories. Many will join the choir’s current members at an anniversary concert next week.

It’s an important milestone, and we’d encourage the community to turn out for the celebration.
