Flory fest

Nature smiled on the inaugural Med Flory Jazz and Blues Festival.
Though rain threatened on and off, the festival went off nearly unscathed, and the temperatures were fabulous for an April weekend in Indiana.
Thanks to grants totaling $30,800 from the Cass County Community Foundation and Cass County Visitors Bureau, the event got off to a great start, with music lovers of all ages gathering under a huge tent to listen to some talented musicians.
Clearly a lot of people worked hard to make the festival reality, and their efforts paid off.
The event was a fantastic tribute to 81-year-old Med Flory, a legendary entertainer who was born and raised in Logansport.
And the music? It was phenomenal.
We’d love to see the tent filled to overflowing in future years, but this year’s crowds were respectable for a first-ever event, and those who did turn out seemed to leave happy. We heard nothing but positive comments from those in the crowd.
And even as this year’s event was wrapping up, the sponsoring Cass County Arts Council had begun to talk about what it could do to make next year’s event an even bigger success.
Congratulations to the organizers on a successful debut. If you missed it, you’ll want to make a note to be there next year and the year after that.
We see a bright future for this festival. It’s the sort of event that could draw lots of folks to Logansport for a weekend of great music.
