Voting

New concept means fewer excuses

Cass County voters have a chance to get a jump on next week’s primary during early voting this week.

In recent weeks, we’ve tried to offer a look at the candidates and the issues. Now, it’s up to you to let your voice be heard.

If you choose a Democratic ballot, you’ll have a chance to choose between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for a presidential candidate and between Jim Schellinger and Jill Long Thompson to take on Republican Mitch Daniels for governor.

If you opt for a Republican ballot, you’ll have a voice in choosing nominees for Congress and state House and Senate seats in addition to 1st District commissioner and county council.

There’s also a nonpartisan election for a seat on the Logansport School Board.

Voters have little excuse not to weigh in. Unlike previous years when voters had 12 hours on a single day to cast ballots at a single location, they now have a choice of several locations over the course of four days.

This is a concept whose time has come.

Casting a ballot in an election is a basic part of the democratic process, and yet, many eligible voters fail to take advantage of the opportunity.

Every vote counts, and there are cases in nearly every election where one candidate wins by a small margin.

Don’t let other people make your choices for you. Take the time to vote.
