Community happenings: Quilt walk, R-Day, dog training


---- — Harvest of Quilts starts today

FLORA — The town is having a Harvest of Quilts from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, Friday, and Saturday. There are 25 locations displaying quilts and quilted items. Quilts will also be on outdoor display at Adam's Mill, Cutler, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Esther Koble, 96-year-old Master Quilter, will be featured in a program from 1 to 4 p.m. at Flora Methodist Church, 103 E. Main St., Flora.

Classes featured are Beyond the Stack and Whack, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. today, at Flora Monroe Library, for $15; Underground Railroad Quilts from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today, at Flora Methodist Church, is free with a quilt walk ticket; Inspired Quilts for Worship Services from 3 to 4 p.m. today, at Bringhurst Methodist Church, is free with a quilt walk ticket; Chenille Quilts 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the Flora Monroe Library, is $15; and English Paper Piecing Hexagons, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, is at Flora Monroe Library.

Textile artist Carol Wicklund's items will be on display at The Grapevine Boutique, 3 W. Main St., Flora. Quilt Walk tickets are $5 and may be picked up at The Flower Shoppe, 7 S. Center St., Flora.

R-Day coming to Pioneer

ROYAL CENTER — There will be an R-Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Pioneer Elementary School in Royal Center. Recyclers will take the usual recyclables such as metal and tin cans, Nos. 1 and 2 plastic bottles, newspaper and cardboard. Containers need to be rinsed, but labels do not need to be removed.

The next scheduled R-Days in Logansport and Royal Center will be in December.

Logan's Landing event registration open

Details are being finalized for Logan's Landing's annual Scarecrow Row Competition, Downtown Spooktacular and Downtown Christmas Open House.

Local businesses and organizations are invited to decorate scarecrows to be displayed from Oct. 21 through Nov. 1 along “Scarecrow Row" on Market Street and Broadway in downtown Logansport.

On Oct. 29, participating downtown businesses will hand out treats to costumed trick-or-treaters during Downtown Spooktacular, immediately followed by the Elks Halloween Parade.

The Downtown Christmas Open House is scheduled for Dec. 5. Registration packets have been distributed to past participants; if your business or organization is interested in participating in any of these events, contact Logan's Landing at 574-722-9345 or Registration deadline is Oct. 16.

Obedience training orientation slated

A Cause for Paws/Logansport Kennel Club dog obedience training will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cause for Paws in the Logansport Mall. This is orientation and sign up, people only. No dogs this night, and come in the back door. For more information, call Nancy Moore at 574-889-3495. This is the last class for the year.

Child vaccinations arrive at health department

The Cass County Health Department will be offering free seasonal flu vaccines to children 6 months to 18 years of age Wednesday by appointment only.

That clinic is only for children ages 6 months to 18 years of age who have Medicaid, no health insurance or have health insurance that does not cover flu vaccine.
