LOGANSPORT — Mattress sale will benefit student programs

MONTICELLO — The Spirit of Twin Lakes Marching Band and JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) have scheduled the first annual Mattress Fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Twin Lakes High School Cafeteria, 300 S. Third St., Monticello.

The one-day sale will feature all types and sizes of mattresses with profits going directly to the band and JAG class.  Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted and delivery is available.

Young Africans to perform at local church

The Life Gate Church is presenting The Young Africans at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, 831 Burlington Ave. Throughout the performance, The Young Africans share various cultural elements from their countries of Kenya and Uganda with a Stomp-inspired dance as well as highlighting unique African instruments.

The concert is free and open to all, however, donations will be taken at the performance to support African Children’s Choir programs, such as education, care and relief and development programs. For more information, call the church at 574-722-5282.

Hispanic community dinner slated in Walton

WALTON — The Walton Lions is hosting a Hispanic Community Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Lions Den on Depot Street. The menu will include tamales, fajitas, refried beans, rice, coffee and other beverages.

Carry-out and drive-thru will be available. Tickets are $7.50 each and children under 8 eat free. Tickets are available at Walton Public Library or call Steve at 574-626-2234.

Blood drive set at Ivy Tech Logansport campus

Ivy Tech is hosting a blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Ivy Tech Community College in the Cole Family Building, 1 Ivy Tech Way, Logansport.

Jingle Bell Run set for Dec. 7 in Peru

PERU — Tri Kappa Sorority will host a 5k Jingle Bell Run at 9 a.m. Dec. 7. Registration will be 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. at Anytime Fitness, 907 W. Main St., Peru.

The event will follow the Nickel Plate Trail. If you pre-register, the cost is $20 and you're guaranteed a T-shirt. If you register on race day, it is $25 and receiving a T-shirt is possible but not guaranteed. There will also be a one-mile fun run starting at 9:45 a.m. for ages 14 and under for $5. There will be awards for multiple age groups.

Sorority sponsors holiday pops concert

ROCHESTER — Holiday Pops Concert, sponsored by Psi Iota Xi, will be presented by the Fort Wayne Philharmonic at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, in the Rochester High School Auditorium.

Ticket prices are $12 in advance or $14 at the door. Students ages 13 to 18 are $8, and children ages 12 and under $6.

Winter-Fest set for Dec. 1 at carousel

Cass County Carousel is having Winter-Fest from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Cass County Dentzel Carousel.

Santa arrives at 2 p.m., and there will be free carousel rides, refreshments and face painting. There also will be a basket raffle for $1.

Fish and chicken fry set for Saturday in Idaville

IDAVILLE — Idaville First Church of God is having a Dan's Fish and Chicken Fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church, 11073 E. 50 North, Idaville.

Tickets are $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 11, and children 5 and under eat free.

Sorority taking apps for scholarships

Delta Theta Chi Sorority is accepting applications for two scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each.

Requirements call for the student to reside in the United States, a high scholastic average, evidence of financial need, currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college, and an application form, with attachments as specified by the National Executive Council. These scholarships are awarded annually to students of promise and distinction.

All applications must be completed and returned by Feb. 1, in order for the winning applicants to be notified May.  Mail your application to Mary Turner at 5225 Kings Court, Logansport, IN 46947. The application forms are available on the website, www.deltathetachi.org.

All applications must be submitted and accepted through a chapter of Delta Theta Chi Sorority.
