Flag creator to be honored, R-Day, bowl-a-thon, art classes

LHS flag creatorto be honored

Logansport High School will honor the creator of the LHS School Flag and 1964 LHS Graduate Russell Bridenbaugh prior to the tip-off of Friday’s boys varsity basketball game.

Russell was selected in 1964 as the winner from 50 entries in a contest sponsored by the Student Council to create an official LHS School Flag.

Art classes for homeschoolers

AKRON — Homeschooled children ages 5 to 8 are invited to attend a 6-week series of art classes at the Akron Public Library, 205 E. Rochester St. The classes are scheduled from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 12, 19, 26 and March 12, 19 and 26.

Cost per child is $30 and includes all materials. The teacher, Brenda Ramseier, is a recently retired public school art teacher. The students will be involved in art appreciation, painting, weaving, drawing, art history, and clay. Class size is limited to the first 16 paid reservations.

Reservations must be sent to: Akron Area Arts League, P.O. Box 702, Akron, IN, 46910. Include the student’s name, address, age and a parent contact with phone number and email address.

The classes are sponsored by the AAAL and funded in part through a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission. For more information, call Brenda at 574-893-1282.

R-Day scheduledat Spencer Park

There will be a Logansport R-Day at Spencer Park from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The Cass County Solid Waste Management District will take the usual recyclables such as metal and tin cans, Nos. 1 and 2 plastic bottles, and newspaper and cardboard. Bottles and cans need to be rinsed but labels do not need to be removed.

This event is for Cass residents only, not for business or industry. The next scheduled regular R-Days will Feb. 8 at Pioneer Elementary, Royal Center, and April 5 in Logansport.

Bowl-a-thon to raise funds for program

Junior Achievement presents “It’s Bowl-A-Thon Somewhere” at 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at Myers Sports Bowl. Proceeds go to the organization’s in-school economic education for over 1,000 Pulaski County students. For more information or to become a volunteer, contact Julie Dyson at 574-721-7212 or
