---- — Housing authority moving to Smith Street

The Logansport Housing Authority's current office at 719 Spencer St., Suite 100, will close on Friday and will reopen on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at its new location, 1802 Smith St.. Phone and internet service will be disrupted during this time.

Holiday craft boutique coming this weekend

Life Gate Church is hosting a Holiday Artisan and Craft Boutique from 10 a.m to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the church, 831 Burlington Ave. There will be local and independent artist.

Christmas Cantata at Chase Center

The Miami Baptist Church Choir, under the direction of Carol (Sikler) Weaver, will perform "Emmanuel," a Christmas Cantata, at 7 p.m. Saturday at Chase Center. Families and friends of the residents are invited to the performance.

Free throw contest this month at Elks

Logansport Elks Lodge 66 is sponsoring the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Cass County Family Y. Boys and girls age 8-13 (before April 1, 2014) are invited to participate in this free event. They must bring an ID for proof of age.

Logansport winners advance to the district competition in Plymouth on Jan. 12, 2014.

Soup cook-off open to public

Woodbridge Health Campus is hosting a community Soup Cook-off from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at Woodbridge, 602 WoodBridge Ave. The event is open to the public. Tasters will give canned goods and/or non-perishable food items to their favorite soup or chili. One can per vote, you may vote more than once. The contestant who collects the most food wins.

Library closing for Christmas, New Years

The Logansport Cass County Public Library will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25, so that the library employees can celebrate the Christmas Season with their families.

The library will also close at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, and all day on Wednesday, Jan. 1, for the New Year’s Day holiday.

'Talk' to DNR Christmas tree expert

Facebook followers of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources can “talk” online with forest education director Sam Carman about Christmas trees from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday on the DNR’s Facebook wall.

Participants will learn about selecting a fresh Indiana Christmas tree and keeping it fresh throughout the holidays. Followers will be able to ask questions online during the hour-long chat.

Future topics, instructions on how to join a conversation on Facebook, and commenting guidelines are posted at dnr.IN.gov/7315.htm.

To join a chat, go to the DNR’s Facebook wall, facebook.com/INdnr, and click “like” (if you are not already a "fan").

You may begin typing in questions during the time slot. The DNR experts will answer questions as time allows.

Cass Dems choose date for 2014 dinner

The Cass County Democratic Party Central Committee announced the location and date for the 2014 Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. The annual Democratic event will take place on Feb. 22, 2014, at the American Legion Post No. 60 in Logansport. There will be a reception starting at 5:30 pm with dinner to be server at 6:30 pm.

Keynote speakers will be announced as the event approaches.
