Community happenings: Library events, fight hunger


---- — Fight hunger and support local football

Help Mike Anderson Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram fill a 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 truck bed to fight hunger at 11 a.m. Saturday. See the football players pull a Ram 3500. Caston, Lewis Cass, Logansport and Pioneer football teams can win cash for their schools.

Drop non-perishable food items off at Mike Anderson, 417 S. Third St., from now until Saturday. All food donations benefit Food Finders Food Bank.

Library hosts wine, film events

MONTICELLO — The Monticello-Union Township Public Library will present the Well-Red Series at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Discover a new way to experience chocolate with Gail Sassman from Delicious Decadence.

Participants will make their own chocolate brownie pizza, chocolate martini, and a breakfast fruit and yogurt parfait all while enjoying a glass of wine.

You must be 21 years or older to register for this event. Registration is required and can be done on Evanced, the library’s online calendar or by calling the library at 574-583-2665 ext. 307 or email Adult programming is sponsored by the Friends of the Monticello Public Library.

Also as part of the International Festival, the Monticello-Union Township Public Library is pleased to screen a special screening of a Spanish film at 6 p.m. Friday. Popcorn and a drink will be provided.

'Underground Railroad Tour' coming

'Underground Railroad Tour' is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. You may either go to Kroeger Funeral Home or 425 9th St., across the street from the Emmaus Mission. They both take you down into the basement and into the "secret" rooms that were discovered over the years. Lighting and mirrors are set up so you can have a safe view of the secrets they have up their sleeves.

Area Five moms group taking members

The Area Five Moms Group is taking reservations for group members from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the lower level of the Calvary Presbyterian Church.

If you or someone you know would like to be a part of a group that supports each other, shares information and learns while having fun, check the group out.

Children learn social skills in childcare while moms are in their group. Members are returning to school, finding employment, purchasing homes and reaching other goals they have set for themselves and their families. The goal is to share information while supporting members in making their goals attainable.
