Tire collections approaching deadline
The deadline is approaching for Cass County residents and farmers who are interested in bringing in tires for the annual collection effort, hosted by the Cass County Solid Waste Management District. The program, which takes place by appointment only, will draw to a close at the end of the month.
To date, two complete semi loads of tires have been brought in for recycling, and a third semi is now in place. To schedule an appointment, contact the CCSWMD office at 574-732-9253.
The first 10 car or small truck tires are accepted free, with each additional tire costing $2. Semi tires are $5 each, with no limit, and tractor tires are $15 each for the first four, and $30 for tractor tires five through 10.
Cookie bake-a-rama next week
Cass County 4-H fair is having an open class cookie bake-a-rama. Cookies must be entered between 9 and 10 a.m. Wednesday at the pavilion. There is an entry fee of $2 per plate with a maximum fee of $5. An entry consists of six cookies of the same type. Cookies must be accompanied by their recipe.
Judging will begin at 10 a.m. and will be open to the public. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top winners.
Lodge having chicken dinner
William Paca Lodge, 1510 Delaware Road, is having a Chicken Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The dinner will have half a chicken and will cost $8 with carry-outs available. For more information, call 574-722-9822.
