Fourth of July news, recycling, state park field trips

State parks to offer field trip help

Educators interested in taking students, grades K-12, on field trips to an Indiana state park or reservoir in the 2014-2015 school year may apply to receive financial help through the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation.

Applications for the Discovering the Outdoors Field Trip Grant Program must be postmarked today. The program is for public, private, parochial or home-school educators.

Walton 5K on Independence Day

WALTON — Walton is having a 5K on Independence Day with registration from 6:30 to 8 a.m. at the American Legion, 111 S. Depot St., Walton. There will be a free Firecracker Run at 8 a.m. with the 5K starting at 8:15 a.m. and a one-mile walk starting at 8:20 a.m.

Cost is $15 per participant by today, or $20 per participant after Tuesday. All proceeds to to the Homes for Wounded Warriors Program.

Basketball tourney in Twelve Mile

TWELVE MILE — Twelve Mile 500 three-on-three basketball tourney will be 5 p.m. Thursday at Twelve Mile Park. There are two divisions: high school and adult. Teams consist of three to five players. Cost is $30 made payable to Twelve Mile Lions. Call Darryl at 574-664-9958 or 765-480-3548 to register a team.

Fish fry and car show Friday

WALTON — The Walton Community Fire Department is having a Fish Fry and Car Show on the Fourth of July. Registration is from 4 to 6 p.m., with the fish fry from 4 p.m. until gone. Pre-registration for the car show is $10 and the day of the event is $12. All proceeds go to the fire department.

Lawnmower race registration details

TWELVE MILE — The Twelve Mile Lions Club is accepting entries for the Twelve Mile Riding Lawnmower Race Festival Parade. It will start at 11:30 a.m. Friday in downtown Twelve Mile.

All mowers must pass a safety inspection before they can practice or attempt to qualify. Mowers can enter the day of the race. The entry fee is $50 and all drivers must wear a motorcycle helmet.

  • Taste of Cass County coming soon

    The ninth annual Taste of Cass County will start at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in downtown Logansport, and features food, fun and entertainment. Admission is $2 per person, or $5 per family, and refreshment tickets are $1 each.

    Pioneer Jr.-Sr. High School officials have announced mandatory orientations for seventh- and eighth-grade students. A mandatory student orientation night for seventh-graders will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the school's auditorium.

    Grissom Air Museum is having its eighth Annual Warbird Cruise-In Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show on Saturday in its 15-acre air park. Registration is from 8 a.m. to noon, doors open at 10 a.m. with lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with awards at 3:30 p.m.
