Community happenings: Road repair, fire prevention day

Smith and High to be repaired

Today, the Public Works Department will be grinding Smith and High streets between Yorktown Drive and Longtree Lane. Crews will start at 7:30 a.m. and drivers are advised to avoid this area or expect traffic delays.

Baked spaghetti supper to help church

River of Life Christian Church, 130 Mall Road, will host a baked spaghetti supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Donations are accepted, with proceeds benefiting church building fund and 10 percent to local outreach.

Holiday craft show coming to Galveston

GALVESTON — Galveston United Methodist Church is having a holiday harvest and craft show from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. There will be handcrafted items, jewelry, candles, purses, primitive items, wood crafts and food.

The church is located at 15 S. Maple St., Galveston. Booth space is available by calling Leslie Pickering at 765-860-7256.

All Saints to have Blessing of Animals

All Saints Catholic Church is having "The Blessing of Animals," inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, at 3 p.m. Sunday in the newly paved school yard, 121 Eel River Ave., Logansport.

You may bring any animal, preferably on a leash or in a cage. Call 574-722-4080 for more information.

Art association to raise funds at yard sale

The Logansport Art Association is having a fundraiser yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Logansport Art Association, 424 Front St. They will also be doing a membership drive during the fundraiser.

Fire Prevention Day coming at Riverside

The Logansport Fire Department and Firefighters Local 470 is kicking off Fire Prevention week with Fire Prevention Day from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Riverside Park. Firefighters will be giving free fire truck rides, Carousel rides, Safety House, popcorn and soda.

    The ninth annual Taste of Cass County will start at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in downtown Logansport, and features food, fun and entertainment. Admission is $2 per person, or $5 per family, and refreshment tickets are $1 each.

    Pioneer Jr.-Sr. High School officials have announced mandatory orientations for seventh- and eighth-grade students. A mandatory student orientation night for seventh-graders will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the school's auditorium.

    Grissom Air Museum is having its eighth Annual Warbird Cruise-In Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show on Saturday in its 15-acre air park. Registration is from 8 a.m. to noon, doors open at 10 a.m. with lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with awards at 3:30 p.m.

  • Club celebrates 60th anniversary The Logansport Coin Club recently celebrated its 60th anniversary with a dinner banquet at the American Legion Hall. The club was founded in 1954. Dimes from that year were presented to those in attendance and a 1954 proof set was the top door prize.
