Community happenings: Square dancing, goodies pick-up, Cole Porter Classic

Square dancing classes starting

The Bridge City Square Dancers will offer Square Dance lessons for the beginner from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday evenings at the Senior Center Dining Room, 115 S. Sixth St.

These are open to the seniors and the community, teen through adult and singles are welcome. Participants first two classes are free and $5 per class thereafter.

The course is 19 weeks long. Ed Czech, Winamac, will be the caller. For more information call 765-427-2148.

Chicken-pork chop dinner slated

ROYAL CENTER — A Nelson's Port-a-Pit Chicken/Pork Chop Dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Community State Bank parking lot in Royal Center, 101 S Chicago St. Dinners are $8 and include half a chicken or 12 ounce pork chop, chips and a cookie. Pit-tatoes are available for $3. Carry-outs only.

Read for the Record aimed at preschoolers

The Logansport Cass County Public Library will be celebrating Read for the Record on Oct. 3. Children’s librarians will be joining with the Jumpstart organization as we try and break a world record by reading Otis by Loren Long with more than 3 million children from around the world!

Lions goodies ready for pick-up

ROYAL CENTER — To the people who ordered pies, noodles or cakes from the Royal Center Lions, the pick-up is from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Royal Center fire station.

Cole Porter Classic to benefit Nickel Plate

PERU — The Peru Rotary Club will have its annual Cole Porter Classic 15k/5k run and walk at 9 a.m. Oct. 5 in Peru. Packet pick-up and registration begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Circus building on the corner of Broadway and Seventh Street. There is a free pee-wee fun run at 8:30 a.m.
