Community happenings: Easter celebrations, food pantry, Earth Day


---- — Fulton egg hunt, eye screening slated

FULTON — The Fulton-Liberty Lions Club annual hunt will be at 2 p.m. April 19 at the Fulton-Liberty Township Park on the east side of town, for children up through age 12.

Parents are asked to leave the plastic eggs in the recycling tubs positioned at each hunt area for next year. There is not a rain-out date scheduled at this time.

Also on April 16, the club will be helping with free Eye Screening for children ages 1 through 6 at the Caston Educational Elementary School. Come between the hours of 9 a.m. to noon or 12:30 to 4 p.m. to the office and follow the signs to the test site next to the library. Parents have to fill out a consent form which may be done on the premises.

Handbell concert, cantata April 19

ROCHESTER — Kristine Stout plays three octaves of English handbells at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 19 in the Community Presbyterian Church, 530 Jefferson Street, Rochester. The one-hour Easter Cantata entitled “The Story of Holy Week” is a musical, inspirational journey through the last week of the life of Christ. The program is open to the public. Donations will be accepted.

Church to host mobile food pantry

Food Finders will have a mobile pantry food giveaway at 11 a.m. while supplies last April 25 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 701 Spencer St.

Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. Food is distributed first come, first served with a limit of one box per household.

Bring a laundry basket or box for food items. Enter on upper level; an elevator will be accessible at lower level if needed. Food will be distributed from the lower level parking lot starting at 11 a.m.

Earth Day at Monticello park

MONTICELLO — The Parks Department will have a tree planting April 25 at the Monticello City Park.

A festival the following day will start off at 8 a.m. in the Monticello City Park where Rick Read will host a bird nesting hike. The fair starts at 1 p.m. and goes to 3 p.m. April 26 in the Amheier Building with a variety of local organizations that they will be handing out information, have crafts and do demonstrations.
