Community happenings: CPT training, prairie grass dedication

CPT training available through Ivy Tech

Ivy Tech Corporate College is offering two sessions of its Certified Production Technician training this fall. Students who earn the certification, which can be completed in eight weeks, are armed with a credential that qualifies them for the advanced manufacturing jobs available now and the opportunity to grow with the industry in the future.

The training also will be available in Logansport from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 28 to Dec. 20, in daily class sessions. The CPT certification training covers four critical areas: Safety, Quality, Manufacturing Processes and Maintenance.

The training will also be offered at Ivy Tech’s Kokomo campus Oct. 7 to Nov. 26, in daily class sessions from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.

For more information, contact Hughes at Ivy Tech Corporate College, 800-459-0561, ext 283, or jhughes32@ivytech.edu.

Friends of Panhandle to dedicate prairie grass

The Nature Committe of the Friends of the Panhandle Pathway are going to dedicate a .6 mile section of prairie grass along the trail at 5 p.m. Oct. 22.

This section, which was originally part of the original Peninsula Prairie, is part of less than 1 percent remaining in Indiana.

This section is just south of Mill Creek and just north of Pulaski County Road 400 South. It shows what the area was like prior to the railway being laid. This prairie at one time covered much of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. It has a mix of dense tall grasses and other herbaceous plants.

Everyone is invited to attend the dedication ceremony and also enjoy this area on your own at any time along the trail. Also, in the spring, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will help maintain this prairie by doing a controlled fire burn.
