Grissom museum having open house
BUNKER HILL — The 2014 Grissom Air Museum Open House will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. This year’s event includes the 50th anniversary celebration of the Bunker Hill Air Force Base’s B-58 “Greased Lightning” and its crew, Major Sid Kubesch of Peru and Gerald Williamson of Pensacola, Fla. They and their navigator, the late John Barrett, set three world records on Oct. 16, 1963, when they flew from Tokyo, Japan to London, England.
The museum will have the ejection capsule from a B-58 on display. Former B-58 pilot and Peru citizen Jack Strank will be offering historical information about the artifact from 10 to 11 a.m. in their Hall of Honor.
The museum is now open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays through Memorial Weekend. They will be open seven days a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
