Community happenings: Artisan exhibit, league tryouts, Coats office hours


---- — Local artisan to exhibit in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS — Mercedes Brugh, an artisan from Logansport, will be exhibiting and selling her etched glass jewelry and bowls at the Indiana Artisan Marketplace.

The Marketplace, launching Indiana’s 2014 art season, is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 29 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 30 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Expo Hall, Indianapolis. It is $10 for adults and children 14 and under are free.

Brugh will be one out of 100 artists exhibiting at the event.

Babe Ruth league having tryouts

WALTON — The Lewis Cass Babe Ruth League is having tryouts on Thursday, April 3 at the Lewis Cass varsity baseball field. Returning player registration begins at 6 p.m.; new player registration is at 6:30 p.m. with tryouts immediately following at 7 p.m.

The registration fee is $75 and is due at sign-ups; $25 of the registration fee will be returned in raffle tickets so that players may recover a portion of the cost. The league is open to 13- to 15-year-olds in Southeastern School Corp. New players must bring a copy of their birth certificate. At the tryouts, wear baseball attire, including cleats, and make sure to dress for the weather.

Coats staffer to have local office hours

MONTICELLO — A member of U.S. Senator Dan Coats’s (R-Ind.) staff will visit from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Monticello-Union Township Public Library, 321 W. Broadway St., Monticello, to meet with local residents and assist Hoosiers experiencing problems with a federal agency.
