---- — Registration is open for a free Department of Natural Resources program that will teach participants how to hunt squirrels in Indiana.

“Hunt, Fish, Eat: Squirrels” is part of the ongoing “Hunt, Fish, Eat” program offered through the DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife that teaches Hoosiers self-reliance.

The program is from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 4 at DNR Fire Headquarters in Morgan-Monroe State Forest, outside Martinsville.

The program will focus on laws and regulations, firearms and safety, locating a hunting spot, field dressing your harvest, and handling and preparing your squirrel for the table. The session will include an opportunity to sample squirrel recipes and examine hunting gear and resources.

Participants must be new hunters, or new to small game hunting. All equipment is provided. Space is limited, so hunters are encouraged to register early.

The program is offered with sponsorship and volunteer support from Squirrels Unlimited.

To register or receive more information, call the DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife at 317-234-8440 or email dfwed@dnr.IN.gov.
