---- — The Logansport Parks & Recreation Department has been awarded a playground safety surfacing grant for the playgrounds at Benjamin Long Recreation Center, Dykeman Park, Melbourne Park, Patriot Park and Spencer Park. Each playground will receive $750 toward the purchase of the engineered wood fiber, the safety surfacing required to protect children from falls while playing on these playgrounds.

The Let’s Play Maintenance Grants and Engineered Wood Fiber Surfacing Grants are made possible by Dr Pepper Snapple Group as part of the “Let’s Play” initiative to get kids and families active nationwide. The goal is to build or fix up 2,000 playgrounds by the end of 2013, benefiting an estimated 5 million children across North America.
