---- — LMH joins national rural ACO

Logansport Memorial Hospital has become a participant of the National Rural Accountable Care Organization. Since passage of the Affordable Care Act, more than 360 ACOs have been established, serving over 5.3 million Americans with original Medicare.

The NRACO is a collaboration of nine innovative rural communities in Indiana, Michigan and California that are working together to improve care for rural Medicare beneficiaries.

Medicare patients still have the right to see any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare, at any time, regardless of whether their primary care provider has opted to participate in the NRACO. Medicare patients’ current benefits and the cost of coverage will not change as a result of this program.

Williams earns insurance license

Bridgett Williams, of Logansport, recently received her property and casualty insurance license, a certification required by the state of Indiana to conduct insurance business in the state. She was hired by Ed Nason Insurance Group in October 2013.

Nonprofit leaders’ series to begin

LAFAYETTE — Board members and executive directors of area nonprofit organizations are invited to sharpen their leadership, planning, fundraising, financial and other skills in an affordable, once-a-month series that begins in February.

Titled the “2014 Douglas W. Eberle Not-for-Profit Board Governance Series,” the 10 sessions feature different topics each time, presented by experts and tailored specifically for those overseeing social service agencies, cultural groups, museums, historical sites, community groups, churches and other service organizations.

The fee is $20 per session for those wishing to sign up for select dates, or $150 for the full series. The first session, “So You’re a Board Member — Now What?” meets from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 5.

Sessions continue from 4 to 6 p.m. the first or second Wednesday of every month through November. All are held at the Lafayette Country Club, 1500 S. Ninth St. in Lafayette. Each session is followed by group networking. Refreshments provided.

Women’s ag conference slated in Jeffersonville

WEST LAFAYETTE — A two-day conference focused on women’s role in making the family farm profitable will give participants an opportunity to network with others who are in the same position.

The 2014 Midwest Women in Agriculture conference will be Feb. 19-20 at the Sheraton Louisville Riverside Hotel, 700 W. Riverside Drive, Jeffersonville.

Nikky Witkowski, conference chair and Purdue Extension educator in Lake County, said the goal of the conference is to educate women on farming practices while also offering them the opportunity to build relationships with other farm women.

Session topics include farm management, marketing for small farms and niches, agriculture technology and legal issues.

Participants who postmark their registration fees before Feb. 4 can get a discount, with a fee for either Wednesday or Thursday at $80, or $90 for both days. After Feb. 4, the fee is $115 for either day or $140 for both days.

Ind. chamber seeking HR nominees

INDIANAPOLIS — Nominations are being sought for the 2014 Ogletree Deakins Human Resources Professional of the Year. The award will be presented at a luncheon on April 30 during the Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s 50th Annual Human Resources Conference & Expo in Indianapolis.

Tyson acquires assets of Bosco’s Pizza

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE:TSN) acquired the assets of Bosco’s Pizza Co. of Warren, Mich., both companies announced last week.

Bosco’s Pizza, famous for “The Original Bosco Stick,” produces a variety of stuffed bread sticks and frozen pizzas for food service and retail customers throughout the Midwest and at some retailers nationwide. Terms of the acquisition, which was completed Jan. 18, were not disclosed.

The company employs about 150 people, all of whom are expected to become Tyson Foods team members. It will become part of Tyson Foods’ Prepared Foods division, but continue to operate under the Bosco’s Pizza Co. name.

Entrepreneur Mark Artinian created Bosco’s as a carry-out pizzeria in 1988 before he started delivering frozen pizzas to area high schools. In 1995, the company started producing frozen stuffed crust pizza, which soon led to stuffed bread sticks, the company’s main product line today. Artinian will remain with the business in an advisory role.

Tyson Foods is the largest supplier of pepperoni and pizza toppings to the food service industry.
