---- — FLORA — A new antiques store opened recently on Center Street.

The Treasure Chest, 18 S. Center St., is the outgrowth of what owners Trevor Howard and Richard Leece have been doing from home for about two years, according to Leece.

They were slated to cut the ribbon on the storefront Friday.

The duo's small antiques shop and consignment outlet began as an Internet auction business, and will continue doing most of its business online, Leece said. Its eBay auction site name is Flora Treasure.

They decided to open the Flora storefront mainly to have somewhere to store the items they are selling, he added. "We've been doing it out of our homes for the last couple of years. It got too big."

The shop is located in just under 1,000 square feet of rented space, as well as three garage bays in back where the business owners plan to store larger items for sale or consignment.

The business is already a full-time operation for both men. For now they're splitting the counter duties at the shop, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, but Leece anticipates hiring a clerk within about three months to free himself and Howard to shop around more for auction items.

Staff at The Treasure Chest may be reached at 574-967-3003.

DUKES NURSE PRACTITIONER GOES FULL TIME

PERU — A Logansport nurse practitioner started seeing Dukes Memorial Hospital patients Wednesday.

Patricia Benedict, a family nurse practitioner, started seeing patients three days a week at Dukes Medical Group's Logansport Outpatient Clinic in November after departing from Logansport Memorial Hospital's ExpressMed location in Logansport.

She joined the Dukes network part-time, then moved to full-time status within the group this month, when she also branched out to Peru and shortened her Logansport hours to two days a week.

Benedict will see patients at the Logansport Outpatient Clinic on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at the Miami County Medical Clinic on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Beginning in October, she will be seeing patients at the Miami County Medical Clinic on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while continuing to see patients at the DMG Outpatient Clinic in Logansport on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The DMG Outpatient Clinic in Logansport is at 3065 E. Market St. in the Eastgate Plaza Shopping Center. The Miami County Medical Clinic is at 1000 N. Broadway in Peru.

Benedict is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and has been working in health care for the past 34 years.

The Logansport clinic can be reached by calling 574-992-8421. The Peru number is 765-472-5335. Staff at the Dukes Medical Group Outpatient Clinic in Logansport will continue to be fluent in English and Spanish.
