Restaurant renamed, reopened after 6 months

Summer food stops nearing fall closures.

A Chinese buffet on Logansport’s east side has reopened under new ownership and a new name.

King Grill Buffet closed Feb. 5 for renovations after New York businessman Jason Chen bought the restaurant. It reopened Aug. 18 under the name Hibachi Grill Buffet, and manager Cathy He says the restaurant has already seen several customers dining in.

New owner Chen also owns Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet in Holland, Ohio, near Toledo, He said.

During renovations, workers installed a hibachi grill and a sushi bar. A new chicken dish and Chinese pastries were added to the menu, as well, said He.

The restaurant did not hire any new staff, she added. There’s still about 10 people working there, half of them full time.

Hibachi Grill Buffet is open Sunday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Staff can be reached at 574-753-6798.

SUMMER STANDS NEARING CLOSE

Some of Cass County’s summer ice cream and hot dog stands are winding down operations now that school is in session. Staff at the seasonal stands have identified autumn closing dates, for the most part.

Two stands on Logansport’s east side will close Sept. 15. Selvios B-K Root Beer East, at the corner of 24th and Market streets, and Sycamore’s Drive In on 20th Street between Broadway and Market streets won’t be the first to close, however.

Scoop’s Ice Cream and Sandwich Shoppe at the corner of 18th and Market streets closed Aug. 27 after a member of the owner’s family suffered a health issue. Scoop’s plans to reopen in late February next year.

Char-Bett Drive In at 1911 Michigan Ave. (Ind. 25) will close after Sept. 29. B-K West at 1101 W. Market St. will remain open through Oct. 6.

In Royal Center, Bob-O-Link Drive In expects to close a few days before Thanksgiving, though an exact date hasn’t been set.

The Walton Freeze in Lewis Cass territory will close around Sept. 14.
