---- — Brodbeck Seeds recognizes seller

John Williamson, of Logansport, was one of four ProSellers recognized by Brodbeck Seeds for sales excellence in 2013.

Brodbeck Seeds ProSellers gathered in Indianapolis to share new ideas, learn about the latest developments and hear from industry experts at their annual ProSeller meeting July 25-26. One of the meeting highlights was recognizing top performers at the ProSeller awards dinner.

Brodbeck Seeds, an affiliate of Dow AgroSciences, is a Wabash-headquartered company providing corn, soybean, wheat and alfalfa seed to farmers throughout Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.

Program offered on farmland leasing

Farmers, landowners, bankers, and farm managers may attend the upcoming program “Finding Balance in Farmland Lease Contracts” offered by the Purdue Extension.

Many times there is confusion in determining a fair value for land rents and which lease option matches the expectations for landowners and tenants. The Purdue Land Lease Team has developed this program along with several publications that address the many questions concerning land leases.

The program will be from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 13 at Ivy Tech-Logansport, 1 Ivy Tech Way.

Speakers will be Tamara Ogle and Paul Marcellino, Purdue Extension educators from the Purdue Extension Land Lease Team, and Miriam Robeson, a Carroll County attorney. Topics covered include trends in land leases, essential communication for optimum landowner- tenant relationships, determining your land’s cash rent value, types of farmland leases, legal aspects of a good lease, and understanding landowner-tenant expectations.

Logan photog featured in festival

WEST LAFAYETTE — Jeremy Ashcraft, of Logansport, is among the participating artists to be featured at the 8th annual Art on the Wabash.

The photographer is among 40 artists from Benton, Carroll, Cass, Fountain, Montgomery, Tippecanoe and White counties selected to participate at the art fair.

The juried art event is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at Tapawingo Park in West Lafayette.

Tyson Foods sets quarterly dividend

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — The Board of Directors of Tyson Foods Inc. declared the quarterly dividend of $.05 per share on Class A common stock and $.045 per share on Class B common stock, payable Dec. 13, to shareholders of record at the close of business on Nov. 29.

Tyson is one of the world’s largest processors and marketers of chicken, beef and pork. Its Logansport meat processing facility employs 1,800 workers.

Head named Champion of Small Business by national coalition

The National Coalition for Capital recently honored State Sen. Randy Head (R-Logansport) with the Champion of Small Business award for his leadership in promoting capital for small businesses in economically distressed communities.

During the 2013 legislative session, Head pioneered efforts to create the Indiana New Markets Job Act, a bill that would have encouraged private funding to small businesses in underserved areas.

Head and 24 fellow legislators from across the nation were recognized for their leadership at the annual National Coalition for Capital awards ceremony on Aug. 12 in Atlanta, Ga.

Indiana Chamber seeks ‘Best Places to Work’

The Indiana Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the state’s annual competition naming the “Best Places to Work in Indiana.”

In its ninth year, this program honors top companies in the state as determined through employer reports and comprehensive employee surveys.

Companies need to have at least 15 Hoosier employees to be eligible. Out-of-state parent companies are also eligible to participate if at least 15 full-time employees are in Indiana.

Winners will be selected from four groups: small companies of between 15 and 74 U.S. employees; medium companies of between 75 and 249 U.S. employees; large companies of between 250 and 999 U.S. employees; and major companies with 1,000 or more U.S. employees.
