As the executive director of Logan’s Landing, I frequently have people tell me their childhood memories of downtown Logansport. Some recall going Christmas shopping with their parents and grandparents … or attending a movie … or perhaps stopping at one of the downtown soda fountains for a treat.
Although downtown Logansport has changed quite a bit over the years, we still have the opportunity to help create happy downtown memories for a new generation by holding special events in the downtown district. Twenty years from now, the children who attend these special events will look back on their own childhood memories of downtown.
One of Logan’s Landing’s signature events is the annual Celebrate Logansport event. In partnership with the City of Logansport, we hold a free birthday party for the City — and everyone is invited!
Although it is a fairly short event (three-hours), many hours of advance planning goes into it. This year’s co-chairs, Sandi Korreckt and Judy Lewis, have put forth a lot of effort to make this year’s event the best one yet: recruiting about two dozen volunteers … coordinating with Logansport Memorial Hospital’s dietary department for the preparation and delivery of the delicious strawberries and shortcake … securing donations of raffle and duck pond prizes, as well as balloons for decoration … coordinating with the City to schedule city employees to dish up shortcake … making signs for the various booths … coordinating with other organizations to expand the event offerings … and the list goes on and on.
Of course, when you arrive at the event (from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the farmers market lot), we hope that everything looks like it just magically appeared — don’t let this inside information about what goes on behind the scenes spoil the enchanted atmosphere for you!
