O’Brien joins law firm
New attorney Jacob O’Brien recently joined the law firm of Starr Austen and Miller as an associate attorney.
O’Brien, a 2004 Logansport High School graduate, earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Indiana University Bloomington in 2009 and went on to graduate summa cum laude from the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis in 2013.
O’Brien was sworn in as an attorney in October 2013. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association and the Cass County Bar Association.
Studach recognized for honors involvement
Leo Studach, an assistant professor of science at Ivy Tech Community College’s Logansport Campus, is one of 30 Phi Theta Kappa advisors who will be honored with the 2014 Paragon Award for New Advisors, presented by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society during its annual convention April 24-26.
The award recognizes advisors who have served less than four years and have made significant contributions to the growth of the individual chapter members, served as the chapter’s advocate on campus and encouraged the chapter to be involved on the local, regional, and/or international level of the organization.
The 30 winners were selected by a panel of judges from more than 100 nominees worldwide.
Correctional staff increase charity pledges
BUNKER HILL — Miami Correctional Facility staff have pledged to donate $46,956 to charity this year through the State Employees’ Community Campaign initiative, increasing its donations by 23 percent over last year.
This year the facility was honored at the campaign’s awards ceremony for exceeding the 2013-2014 SECC goal of 20 percent or more of its champion givers. In addition MCF was honored at the “Gold Level” for the per capita number of donators giving on average $95.44 annually.
Cardinal Services earns highest accreditation
Cardinal Services programs have received the highest accreditation possible from CARF International, the Center for Accreditation of Rehabilitative Facilities, according to a release from Cardinal.
