BIZ BUZZ: Golf course owners headed for 19th hole

New pediatricians to join Logansport Memorial Hospital.

WALTON — The owners of Walton Little Mountain Golf Course are looking to hand over their business to a buyer.

The golf course closed for the season Oct. 31 and owners Terry and Janet Collins, who opened the course in 1991, hope to sell the course in time for a new owner to open it next spring.

“Janet’s 74 and I’m 75,” said Terry Collins. “I taught school for 35 years and I ran the golf course for 22. I think it’s time to slow down a little, maybe.”

The 18-hole, par 3 golf course sits on about 14.5 acres near the Walton I.O.O.F. cemetery with a 574-square-foot clubhouse in the middle of the course. Terry Collins describes it as built with seniors, beginners and other more laid-back golfers in mind.

The couple decided at the beginning of the season that it would be their last summer running the place, Terry Collins said, and enlisted the help of a broker in October. It’s listed with Pacesetters Real Estate for $199,900.

“We really hate to close it, but you just have to face reality sometimes,” said Terry Collins. “I don’t want to get to the place where we can’t take care of it.”

So far, Terry and Janet Collins haven’t heard from any serious potential buyers.

“We’ve had some people ask, but that’s about the extent of it,” Terry Collins said. “There’s work involved, and when people think about it, it’s pretty time-consuming. We’re closed on Sunday, but the other days, it’s almost 24-7.”

He indicated he’d enjoyed his couple of decades as a golf course owner and thanked golfers who’d made their way around the course.

“We’ve met a lot of wonderful people and made a lot of good friends,” said Terry Collins.
