Being a working mom with a full-time career sometimes has me in a rut.
I have to really focus on balancing work, life, family and, of course, “me” time. This task is a lot harder than I thought it would be when I first became a mom. One of my favorite quotes is by Albert Einstein: “Life is like riding a bike. In order to keep balance, you must keep moving.” That is how I look at all aspects of my life, especially my career.
Most of us bring our work home (or maybe your home is your work), even if it’s just debriefing the day or thinking about a project you are working on. That’s where the balance comes in: Leave work at work.
According to Business Weekly, workers tend to be 21 percent more productive if they have a work/life balance that suits them. With the right balance, you can enjoy your time off and make sure that you spend time on yourself and with your family. To keep my work/family balance, I follow some simple tips that keep me focused while still having time for the important things.
To-do lists. I know this can be a cliché but they really work. Make a list of all the things you have going on the next day, or week, and put it right by your computer. This way you won’t have to keep thinking about what you have to do the next day. This also helps me be more productive because I write them down when they are fresh in my mind.
Ask for help. This is tough sometimes. Remember my article about teamwork? That is where this comes into play. You must ask for help if you are feeling overwhelmed; you may be surprised at the responses you get.
